Real Medicine

June 11, 2010

I’ve just spotted this great article A Plethora of Fallacies. It lists 18 common misconceptions about (and arguments against) “western” medicine, giving appropriately concise answers, as they’re all pretty easily countered.

These are all things I’ve heard said about “western” medicine, including by people who should know better. It’s a sign of the (growing?) power of alt-med and its PR that otherwise rational people can say some of these things. Some are nearer the mark than others, but some of the statements are way out there.

If in doubt, the line “if it worked, it wouldn’t be alternative, it would be medicine” works pretty well (I definitely stole that from someone, but can’t for the life of me remember who…).
